Hello wordpress
March 22, 2006Moved to WordPress.com. This is your first post on wordpress. I am impressed how easy it is to move from blogger to wordpress.com. WordPress has categories. Thats why i switched.
Google Finance
March 21, 2006Just checked out Google Finance. Its no great shakes. It is very similar to the Yahoo. I always thought that Yahoo finance was pretty good and I use it daily for tracking my investments. I have atleast 15 portfolios that I have created for tracking various investments and strategies (I have one for what Jim Cramer recommends
). I think this is the sticky part for me for switching from Yahoo to Google finance. The Google charts with all the Ajax piazzas is pretty good but wont be enough for me to switch. The thing that will make it worth my while is if they had better portfolio tracking. Currently the Google Portfolio is worse then Yahoo. So I am not switching.
How to Become an Early Riser
March 15, 2006So if you want to become an early riser (or just exert more control over your sleep patterns), then try this: Go to bed only when you’re too sleepy to stay up, and get up at a fixed time every morning.
Pretty good advice on getting up early. I will try to do that from today. He claims that we can get a month of extra time every year if we sleep 30 min less every day. He slept 90 min less every day. Here is what I would do with this extra time:
1. Read more ( I have a ton of books i bought but have not read)
2. Learn the guitar ( I have a guitar but have never touched it)
3. Learn Spanish (always wanted to do this)
4. Spend more time with Mo (my son)

Torvalds On TiVo
March 10, 2006Great answer to this question. This is the differce between him and Stallman.
Q: You say what TiVo is doing is “a bit offensive.” So why not use GPLv3 [GNU General Public License] to make them stop doing it?
A: In my worldview, it’s OK for other people to do stupid things. I can complain about it, but in the end, it’s their choice. If somebody offends me too much, I’ll stop dealing with them. Now, I’ve had to limit my choice of long-distance phone companies because of this practice of mine, but I think it’s more productive in the long run than trying to be “activist” with software licensing. Activism and technical decisions just don’t mix well.

Why You Should Blog
March 8, 2006Steve Yegge’s essay about why one should write a blog. I am not sure why I want to blog. For me, its like writing a diary which I can go back and read after a while to remember what I was into. I have not been doing it long enough to see other benifits.
An Algorithmic Approach to English Pluralization
March 8, 2006Interesting alog to pluralize english words. I have been playing with RoR and it pluralizes between classes and tables in its ORM and does a bad job for the tricky words. They should implement this alogorithm.
The Cost of Bootstrapping Your App
March 8, 2006RyanC of DropSend talks about how much they spent bootstrapping there webapp (an hosted application to exchange large files). He says it costs about $45000. I bet you can do it cheaper if we do the R&D in India. They tried it but it was a disaster
I dont know why
